Tattoos & Weight Changes - September 7th, 2009

If you have a tattoo, there are things to remember about weight gain and maintenance.  I knew one woman who didn’t gain weight so much as she got pregnant, and it stretched out so much that she got a tummy tuck, resulting in that tattoo essentially speaking getting its head cut off.  So wrong place for her to get it for obvious reasons.  But it’s not just that.  If you gain too much weight in general, you will stretch the skin out, and over time it will distort any tattoo on any area of the body as will extreme weight loss.  You may think certain areas are exempt.  But even for example the ankle grows with fat to some degree, and it is by no means exempt.  Luckily, when you are young, generally speaking your skin will shrink back to its general condition should you choose to lose the weight you have gained.  However, it’s something to remember if getting a tattoo.  If planning to lose weight in the near future or for that matter if you are currently gaining or losing weight, you may want to wait a little bit on getting that tattoo of your choice.  If you are getting pregnant or pregnant already for that matter, you may also want to consider the placement.
