Marketing Schemes - September 8th, 2009

Advertising is a brilliant thing, it really is.  They convince you that you should actually be doing this or that and you will be skinnier, it will taste better, etc.  How they do it remains of course a mystery to some.  But with bottles for example, it’s really very simple.  No matter what kind of drink it is, they find that women will actually pay more and buy more when they see a bottle that is indented in the middle denoting an hourglass figure in terms of the human body.  This is ridiculous right?  I mean you are actually getting less of the drink, and if it’s water well obviously the more you get the better, and yet they are ripping us off and we buy the products because in the back of our minds, we see these indented bottles and we think skinny.  So it’s not the smartest thing to do exactly, and yet we continue to do it to ourselves.  But I guess that’s the way media works.  Now if it’s a soda or something, it might be good for us to subconsciously cut back on that drink.  But they do it with water for the most part, which obviously isn’t as good a thing as you may initially think in many cases.
