Apparently, though they certainly wouldn’t be the exception by any logic, bulimia has spread itself to diabetic individuals, or rather it has been more recently recognized in general terms. It is called Diabulimia, and it is actually more dangerous, because this specific type happens among those with Type 1 diabetes. Chances are if you have Type 2 diabetes, you may not suffer from the same mechanisms of action to deal with stress and weight gain in general. But this is happening more often in teens with type 1 diabetes. Generally speaking, they tend to lose weight before they are diagnosed, and then with the treatment of insulin, they start to suddenly gain weight. So this understandably intimidates and confuses many individuals with the disease. Some of these teens become very unhappy with the weight gain, and then they figure that if they skip a dose of their insulin, it will counteract the weight gain in general terms and make it possible to lose weight. They tend to also reduce insulin doses, binge, compulsively overeat, restrict their diet in unhealthy diets, induced vomiting, starving, taking laxatives, and over exercising. While all this is of course detrimental to other people, it is especially detrimental to those who happen to suffer from diabetes as well.
